I (Richard) recently went through the towns of Maribojoc and Loon that had suffered serious damage in the 2013 Bohol earthquake. The parish churches of both towns had lain in ruins. I was amazed on my return visit to the two towns in June 2024 to see that both churches had been rebuilt. It appears that a lot of the rubble had been used again for the re-building.

Here are photos of the destroyed churches in 2013 and the churches in their restored state today.

The sign shows the Lady of Light Church as it was before the earthquake. The sign says "The removal of any rubble is strictly prohibited as it will be used again for the rebuilding of the church."

The rebuilding of the Lady of Light church in Loon was concluded in 2011- eight years after the devastating earthquake.

Both churches go back to the spanish colonial period. You can learn about their history from the following links on wikipedia.
